Our mission: to provide students and families with the tools and skills they need to enjoy music for a lifetime

Since 1987, Noteworthy Music (originally Noteworthy Music Academy) has been helping families and individuals have the blessings of music in their lives. Upon its founding by Janet Dietrich, who had been putting her music degrees to use in private instruction, and husband Bob, who provided business support, the academy grew rapidly by attracting many qualified, personable instructors. Unable to get quality instruments and accessories for their own children affordably from area stores, Janet and Bob began offering them for rent or purchase affordably from their own store, creating Noteworthy Music.

Shortly after Bob's passing, Janet retired, passing the business on to her son, Jim, who moved his family back to the Pittsburgh area to run Noteworthy Music. Under his direction, Noteworthy Music added a retail line and continued to enhance its lessons and rental business. One of the key components of that development was the hiring of Nathan Bodnar.

Our instructors have always been the cream of the crop. Almost all hold degrees in music performance and/or music education. You can read about them on our Lessons homepage. Another key component to our operation is Shayla Hannon, our office assistant.

In 2017, Jim brought on business partner Jonny Kigin, allowing Nathan to pursue further education as a luthier apprentice and instrument technician. Jonny's arrival also brought to the table extensive retail and organizational behavior experience. Together, they continue to operate Noteworthy Music as a family business, focusing on the customer and fulfilling the mission established by Janet and Bob over thirty years ago.
